There are so many tools and methods to grow an all-natural, vibrant and healthy garden. Just learn some techniques, and put the ones that resonate with you into practice.
If you plan to raise organic plants inside, you need to think about how much light they will get. If your apartment or home does not receive a huge amount of sunlight, you might want to grow plants that adapt to medium and low light environments instead. If you simply must have a plant that has higher requirements for sunlight, you can use indoor UV lamps.
Perennial gardens should be prepared easily and quickly in the ground. Simply use a spade or small shovel to get under the grass or turf and flip it over. Then, using wood chips, cover the area to a depth of three or four inches. Give the area a couple of weeks, then dig into it and plant your new perennials.
To be more efficient when working in your organic garden, have your tools close at hand. For example, you could use an over-sized tote bag or an apron with multiple pockets. You will be much more productive if you can quickly get to your spade, pruning shears, trowel and watering can.
When your seeds sprout, they will not be in need of the warmth they needed to germinate. As they begin growing you can move them farther away from heat sources. Also, remove plastic coverings from the tops of your growing containers to keep them from becoming too warm or humid. Unless you closely monitor your seedlings, you may not move them in time.
When you are working in your garden, you will want to have all of your tools in a convenient location. Don’t waste thirty minutes looking around for a tool. Before you start work in the garden, make sure you have the necessary tools, and always remember to put them away when you are finished. If you need, use a tool belt or even pants that have quite a few pockets.
Use plastic bags to cover muddy gardening shoes. This way, you can get in and out quickly, and get back to work in the garden.
Pine mulch can be highly effective under the right conditions. Some plants do better in soil with high acidity as they are highly acidic themselves. There is no better, or easier, way to make your acid-loving plants happy then to use pine needles you already have on your beds. Cover the surface of the ground with a two-inch layer of the pine needles; as the needles break down, they will release acid into the soil and nourish your plants.
Do you want to kill weeds naturally? Use a lot of layers of newspaper in order to achieve weed control. Weeds require sunlight for growing. Newspapers placed atop weeds will starve them from light and they will eventually die. The newspapers will break down over a period of time, and will become part of your compost. Try adding some mulch on top of it to make appear more attractive.
