Excellent Tips For Growing An Organic Garden

Organic gardening is wonderfully therapeutic and anyone can enjoy it. The gardening experience can sometimes be rather intimidating and overwhelming to a beginner. So, what exactly should a novice learn and do when they want to start growing plants? Well, read the tips below, of course!

Get your kids to help you grow your organic garden. Gardens are a wonderful place for kids to learn, and working side by side with them can strengthen the bond that you have.

Young children will love it if you plant strawberries that bear continually, and organic gardens are the perfect place to do it. Children find it fun to pick strawberries and love to assist with the harvest if they get some yummy treats as they work.

Try to put an aspirin in the water to get rid of plant diseases. Your plants can benefit from a solution you can make by dissolving one and one-half aspirins into a couple of gallons of water. Then spray your plants with this mixture to stave off diseases. Plants should be sprayed once every two to three weeks.

When helping organic plants flourish inside, it is vital to keep in mind how much light is reaching them. If your apartment or home does not receive a huge amount of sunlight, you might want to grow plants that adapt to medium and low light environments instead. If your plants still need more light, there are always artificial light sources that you can use.

Pine Needles

Pine needles should not be overlooked as a great source for mulch. Acidic soil is a favorite of garden plants that are high in acidity. When you have any plants like this, it’s very simple to just collect pine needles to use in your bed. Using several inches of needles to cover your beds provides acid for the soil as they begin to decompose.

Put coffee ground into your soil. The grounds contain essential nitrogen, which will benefit your plants in many ways. This nutrient is often lacking in home gardens, and adding it will give you taller plants that bloom beautifully.

Laundry Basket

Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. Most laundry baskets are designed with a multitude of holes. This makes them a perfect strainer for washing your vegetables. You can rinse your produce off while it is in the basket, and the excess water will strain through the holes of your laundry basket.

When planting seeds in containers, remember that the depth should be at least three times bigger than the seed. It is important to note though, that not all seeds are covered to this depth, as some need direct sunlight to grow properly. Some common examples include ageratum and petunias. When in doubt about whether a seed requires direct sun exposure, you can find lots of information online or on the seed packaging itself.

Now you have the groundwork of knowledge necessary to start enjoying organic gardening. It is very relaxing and fun to work in a beautiful garden. Using these tips, you can become an excellent organic gardener.
