Grow A Lovely Organic Garden With These Tips

Planting an organic garden gives you easy access to a source of healthy food, but buying what you need and getting it set up can be tough for a first-timer. You can choose from many different seeds. Here are a few tips and techniques you can use to get started in your own organic garden.

Get your kids to help you grow your organic garden. A garden can be a great learning experience for your children, and it gives you a chance to bond while producing healthy food.

Consider planting strawberries, especially ones that are everbearing, for your garden if you have small children. Kids are quite eager to pick fruit from a garden, and will help with the planting if they get a nice snack out of it at the end.

A good tip to help your plants stay healthy and fight diseases is to use aspirin water. You will need 2 gallons of water and one and one half aspirin mixed together for a wonderful add-on to your plants. Next, coat the plant with the aspirin mixture by spraying it on the leaves. Use this solution once in every three-week period.

Plants growing in your home need a constant temperature of no less than 65 degrees. They need the temperature to be that warm so that they can grow. These temperatures may not be comfortable for you, however. As an alternative to keeping your entire home that warm, consider getting heat lamps for your organic plants.

If you’re growing indoor organic plants, you should ensure that you think about how much light is available for them. If your apartment or home does not receive a huge amount of sunlight, you might want to grow plants that adapt to medium and low light environments instead. If you still are unable to get enough light to your plants, consider purchasing grow-lights.

Working in the garden doesn’t have to be grueling; learn to work more efficiently. Don’t waste your time by searching high and low for that packet of seeds or spade. Before you start work in the garden, make sure you have the necessary tools, and always remember to put them away when you are finished. You can use a tool belt for this purpose, or choose pants that contain several large pockets.

Pine Needles

Pine needles should not be overlooked as a great source for mulch. Some plants are highly acidic, and like soil that is acidic too. If you have some of these plants, then pine needles are an easy way to add acid to their bed. Spread the needles over the beds in a layer that is approximately 2-inches deep. Over time, the needles will begin to decay, supplying the soil with acid as they do.

As mentioned earlier, an organic garden could be a valuable asset for improving your diet. It is also important to be knowledgeable of the various types of plants that you can choose from. Apply the tips you just read to start your garden to save money and eat healthier foods.
