How To Grow An Organic Garden The Right Way

Organic gardening is a hobby that anybody can do in order to relax. However, for someone who does not have any experience with gardening, the thought of starting, or maintaining, a garden can be intimidating. How can the beginning organic gardener get a handle on how to start out? Well, a great place to start is with the following helpful article!

You should teach your children how to garden alongside you. Children will benefit from the fresh air while bonding with you in your efforts to provide healthier food alternatives for them.

If you’re really serious about environmentally-friendly gardening practices, refrain from developing some of your land and use it as an animal habitat. This can be a good area for the types of insects that pollinate plants. It can also be a sanctuary for birds, which will help some plants thrive. This can greatly improve the production of your organic garden.

It can be easy to prepare the soil in a perennial garden. All you need to do is use a garden spade to slice under the turf, flip it over, then spread wood chips over the area about three to four inches deep. Give this area at least a few weeks, then you can dig into the area and plant the new perennials.

Use approximately two or three inches of natural, organic material as some mulch in every single flower bed. A thick layer of mulch will prevent weeds, reduce watering needs and fertilize your garden. By adding mulch, you can give your flower beds a finished appearance.

Pine Needles

Pine needles should not be overlooked as a great source for mulch. Some plants need acidic soil to grow properly, because of their own acid content. Use pine needles to increase the acid level in your soil if you have plants that require higher acid. Covering your plant beds with a layer of pine needles will allow the pine needles to disperse their acidic nutrients into the soil for your plants.

Spacing is one of the primary considerations when planning an organic garden. Many people don’t realize exactly how much space a plant needs when it grows. Plants need room for physical growth and for the air to circulate within the soil. Plan your organic garden while keeping this in mind, and space your seeds accordingly, when planting.

Use an aged laundry basket when you want to collect your produce. A benefit of using something like a laundry basket is that it can strain for you, as well as hold a large amount of produce. You can clean and rinse the harvest when it is the laundry basket and the water will go out of the holes.

Organic Gardening

Now you should be able to see why organic gardening can be such an enjoyable activity to participate in. It is quite calming and relaxing to immerse oneself in the rhythms of organic gardening. Using these tips, you can become an excellent organic gardener.
