You will garden more efficiently if you keep your tools close by. Wear pants with multiple pockets or use a toolbox or large bucket. If you have your pruning shears, spade, trowel and gloves handy, you will be able to get your gardening chores done much more quickly.

In your flower beds and garden, utilize a few inches of organic mulch. Mulch will minimize weed growth and maximize nutrients and moisture. A layer of mulch also creates a more attractive appearance.

If you need to use a tool belt, try using some pants with pockets in them.

Keep plastic bags handy to cover your muddy gardening shoes. This way, you can get in and out quickly, and get back to work in the garden.

Pine is a wonderful mulch so do not discard the idea. Some plants are highly acidic, and like soil that is acidic too. If that’s the case, the easiest thing to do is use pine needles for beds. Go ahead and cover the beds you have with needles a couple of inches and while they decompose, they actually disperse some acid into the soil.

Want to get rid of weeds naturally? Pile newspapers on top of each other to kill weeds. Weeds require sunlight to grow. If you put a thick layer of newspaper on them, weeds will not be able to get light or air, and they will die! As an added benefit, the newspapers will decompose over time, becoming organic compost. You can then add a mulch layer right on top so that it looks more attractive.
