Organic Gardening Tips For Gardeners Of Any Level

Application of correct organic gardening tips and products will shine through in the quality of your garden. Using these environmentally sound techniques means you care about your own health and that of your garden. This is a valuable attitude. Improvement to any skill can always be achieved, and this skill set is no different. Below are some tips to help.

Indoor plants need an environment that is between 65 and 75 degrees. This is the optimum temperature to ensure strong growth. If you do not want to keep your home that warm during the winter months, you can get a heat lamp for the organic plants instead.

You’ll save time and energy if you keep tools nearby while working in your garden. Wear pants with multiple pockets or use a toolbox or large bucket. Keep your gloves, a trowel, small pruning shears and other tools handy and make quick work of your garden maintenance.

Pine is a surprisingly good source of mulch. Some plants have a naturally high acidic level, and therefore like acidic soil. Pine needles are an excellent form of mulch for these types of plants. Cover your beds with two inches of needles; acid will be dispersed into the soil as they decompose.

When planting your organic garden, spacing is an important thing to keep in mind. Amateur gardeners often make the mistake of failing to leave enough space for fully matured plants. Plants don’t just need enough space for their physical size; they also need enough space for the air in your garden to circulate properly. Think ahead and give each plant room for expansion, by properly spacing the seeds.

Laundry Basket

When the time comes to harvest your produce, collect it using an old laundry basket. The laundry basket can be used as a colander for your produce. Just rinse the produce right in the basket; the water will drain through the holes.

For container planting, be sure to plant your seeds at a depth around three times the radius of the seed. However, you should be aware that certain seeds should not be covered at all because they are required to be in the sunlight. Ageratum and petunias fall into this category. With so many different types of seeds, it is important that you check seed packaging or utilize other resources, such as the Internet, to discover which seeds require exposure to direct sunlight.

If slugs are disrupting the balance of your garden, you can diminish their population by using a beer trap. Start by burying a wide-mouth jar in the soil, ensuring that the rim of the jar is just at the soil’s surface. Next, add beer to the jar until it’s about nearly full, with somewhere around an inch of space remaining. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.

You already have the products, the tools and the skills to get those organic gardens going. That’s awesome! The tips here should help you with your organic gardening.
