Organic Gardening Tips That Everybody Should Know

One of the most sensible ways to improve your diet is through organic gardening. However, effort is required in order to effectively grow. This can make you wonder where to begin for growing your own organic garden.

In order not to shock your plants, you have to gradually accustom them to the change of temperature and conditions. Put them out in the sun for approximately one to two hours on the very first day. Then over the next week, gradually increase the time they are in their new habitat. If you do this correctly, the plants should be able to make their final move at the end of a week’s time.

If you have any mildew on the plants, do not go out and buy anything. Combine a bit of liquid soap and some baking soda with water. Once a week, spray this solution on your plants and your mildew should disappear in no time. Baking soda will effectively remove the mildew without damaging your plants.

Stink Bugs

While working in your garden during the fall season, watch out for those stink bugs! Stink bugs enjoy gardens, and are especially fond of fruit, tomatoes, beans and peppers. If they go unnoticed, they can cause large amounts of harm to your garden, so remember to take protective measures to reduce the population of stink bugs there.

In a place that’s dark, pre-soak the seeds. Drop some seeds into a small glass or other container, and fill it with water. This lets water soak into the seeds, giving them an extra boost of hydration when they start growing. This increases the chances of survival for the seeds.

If you want your garden to be off-limits to your dog, spray a scented perimeter around it using things like old perfumes or aftershave. This will mask any scents that might attract your dog and make your garden less interesting to him.

Make sure to wear sun protection gear if you’ll be working in the garden in the sun. Clothing should keep your skin covered, and don’t forget to wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Protecting yourself from harmful UV rays means you are less likely to get sunburned or suffer skin cancer later in life.

The flesh of vegetables gets soft in the heat of the day, making them especially vulnerable to inadvertent damage with even the gentlest picking. Vegetables and fruits should always be cut from the vine, not twisted; twisting subjects a plant to needless stress.
