Organic Gardening Tips That Will Help You Get A Better Garden!

If you’re planning on eating healthier and saving a lot of money on groceries, growing an organic garden will accomplish that and much more. It can be a little daunting, however. From the type of mulch to use to the right equipment, there are many questions you need answered. Additionally, there are a variety of seeds with different planting times to consider. Here are a few tips and techniques you can use to get started in your own organic garden.

When growing indoor plants, the thermostat should be set between 65-75 degrees throughout the day. This level of heat is required in order for plants to grow. You can also buy a heat lamp to maintain ideal conditions for your inside plants during the winter.

You should work efficiently, instead of working hard in your garden, to simplify things. If it takes you thirty minutes to find a needed tool, then you are doing something wrong. Have all of tools you will need for the day before you head out your garden. When you are finished, put them away neatly for the next time. You can use a tool belt for this purpose, or choose pants that contain several large pockets.

Pine Needles

Pine is a surprisingly good source of mulch. There are some plants that thrive in acidic soil. If you have these plants in your garden, keep them healthy by using pine needles as mulch. Simply add a layer of pine needles a couple of inches deep to the plant beds. The needles will decompose over time and provide the soil with acidity.

Spacing is one important factor in gardening. You will most likely underestimate how much space plants will need as they grow. The plants will inevitably need to unfurl and spread, but they also need the circulation of air from open spaces. Plan your garden accordingly, and make sure the right distance is between the seeds.

Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. This type of basket can double as a large colander for the fruits and vegetables you pick. If you leave your produce in the basket while rinsing it, the basket will be able to serve as a strainer, with the extra water dripping out the holes in the bottom of the basket.

Do you want to get rid of weeds in a natural way? You can easily control weeds by using layered sheets of newspaper. In order to grow, weeds need sunlight. When you place layers of newspapers on top of them, the weeds will suffocate from the lack of light. In time, the newspaper will decompose into the soil. Cover the newspaper with a thick layer of mulch for a more attractive look.
