Proven Tips For The Perfect Organic Garden

You are finally ready to try organic gardening. This is great timing! The following tips can help you realize your plans for your garden.

Aspirin water has disease-prevention properties that can protect plants. Dissolve three aspirin in four gallons of water. Simply spray your plants with the mixture, and this will help them fend off various diseases. Plants should be sprayed once every two to three weeks.

If you plan to raise organic plants inside, you need to think about how much light they will get. If the room you wish to grow them in faces in a direction that gets little light, choose varieties of plants which can accept this type of environment. If you do and this does not help, consider investing in some grow-lights.

Preparing the soil for your perennial garden is easy. Take your spade and work up a thin layer of soil. Turn that soil over, then spread a few inches of wood chips on the newly turned area. Wait for a few weeks and plant new perennials in this area.

Keep your tools handy to work more efficiently. For example, you could use an over-sized tote bag or an apron with multiple pockets. Tools you’ll need to garden efficiently include towels, gloves, pruning shears and other plant-specific tools.

After your seeds sprout, the containers do not need to stay as warm as they once did. Your seedlings should be moved away from any heat source. You can now take off any protective coverings on your plants that were there to shield them from the elements. Keep an eye on your seeds so you will know when this should be done.

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. This type of basket can double as a large colander for the fruits and vegetables you pick. Just rinse the produce right in the basket; the water will drain through the holes.

Apply equal portions of dried plant material and green into your compost pile. Garden wastes, such as grass clippings, are classified as green materials. Paper and straw are dry plant materials. Avoid ashes, meat, charcoal and diseased plants in your compost.

Consider solving your weed problem without the use of toxic chemicals. Take layers of newspapers and use them for weed control. Weeds can’t grow without sunlight. By covering them with a layer of newspaper, you are essentially suffocating the weeds due to a lack of light. Newspaper decompose quickly and integrate into the compost. You can add mulch on top for aesthetic reasons.

For container planting, be sure to plant your seeds at a depth around three times the radius of the seed. However, you should always know that some seeds cannot be covered, even the slightest bit, because they need to be in direct sunlight. Some of these seeds are petunias and ageratum. If you don’t know whether your seeds require sun exposure, check the seed package or search online for the information.

You are now well-equipped with insight on creating an organic garden. You have just learned a lot of great information. The different tips and methods you can use are endless, and as long as you can follow and implement the information correctly, you should have no trouble growing a fantastic garden this season.
