Simple Things All Organic Gardeners Should Know

A mixture of aspirin and water can protect your plants from common diseases. One and half tablets of aspirin in a couple gallons of water will be a wonderful help to the plants you have. Then spray your plants with this mixture to stave off diseases. Try to apply the mixture to the plants at least once in each three week period.

One of the problems that people come up against when trying to grow organic plants indoors is a lack of natural light. If the room you wish to grow them in faces in a direction that gets little light, choose varieties of plants which can accept this type of environment. If the type of plant does not help, you can always use lights to help.

Before planting any perennials, you have to make the ground ready. Simple slice into the soil with a spade, flip the turf, and mulch the area with 3 to 4 inches of wood chips. Wait for a few weeks and plant new perennials in this area.

Pine Needles

Do not overlook the benefits of pine mulch for your garden. Some plants do better in soil with high acidity as they are highly acidic themselves. If this is the case, use pine needles to mulch your beds. Spread a few inches of pine needles on your organic beds so that it will put the acid into your soil.

Don’t let all the little chores in your organic garden build up. Sometimes it might prove difficult to get in a little gardening time every day. However, you shouldn’t fret, as there are a few things you can do that can minimize the time you spend gardening when you do manage to get to it. Try pulling a few weeds from the garden while your dogs are out doing their business.

Your compost pile should contain green plant materials and dry plant materials. Grass clippings, vegetable and fruit leftovers, and grass clippings are all examples of green plant material. Dried plant matter, on the other hand, includes shredded paper, used wood chips and straw. Certain substances will undermine your composting efforts and cancel out any benefits; these include meat, charcoal, ash or plants that have diseases or fungal growths.
