Old laundry baskets are handy tools at harvest time. An old laundry basket makes an excellent strainer for cleaning your produce. Rinse your crops while in the laundry basket to strain the excess water.

The simple beer trap is still one of the best methods of ridding your organic garden of slugs. Dig a hole just deep enough for a glass jar to be placed in it while the jar still has its rim in line with the surface of the ground. Next, add beer to the jar until it’s about nearly full, with somewhere around an inch of space remaining. Slugs will be attracted to the beer and fall into the jar.

Try to use untreated wood, brick or stone and make a raised bed. For best results, you should only use wood that has not been treated with chemicals or protective coating. Good choices are cedar, locust and cypress. Do not use treated wood in your vegetable garden. If you already have treated lumber in use, line it with some plastic and replace the soil near it.
