Lay sod properly. Before you lay the sod, the soil has to be prepared. Pull out any weeds and break up the soil. Flatten your soil and make it slightly compact. Water the soil until it is saturated. Lay the sod in rows, and make sure the joints do not overlap. You want the sod to end up as a flat and even surface. If there are any gaps in between the sod pieces, then you can fill these in with some soil. Water the sod everyday for the first two weeks until the roots grow enough.

So you don’t shock the plants, you should gradually get them use to a change in the temperature and conditions. On the first day, put them out in sunlight for about an hour or so. Then over the next week, gradually increase the time they are in their new habitat. At the end of a week, they should be accustomed to the outdoors and ready to transition to outside safely.

Clay soil is hard and will also stick to a shovel, making it difficult to work with. To make the clay soft so you aren’t working as hard, take floor or car wax and rub a light coat on the surface of the shovel using a clean cloth, then buff the surface. You will be able to work with the clay more easily, and it will not stick to your shovel.

Your tool handles can double as measuring sticks. Handles of things such as rakes, hoes or shovels make excellent measuring instruments. Just run some measuring tape right on the floor next to the handles. You can label distances using a permanent marker. You will never find yourself looking for a ruler thanks to this simple tip.

For the right results, get the right type of soil. What plants you desire determines what type of soil you need in your garden, and whether or not it needs to be amended. You can designate one area of your garden to use one specific type of soil.
