Ideas and resources for a great garden

Ways To Get the Garden You Always Wanted

Yes, it’s true; thinking about digging outside in the dirt and watching little seeds grow seems like a long process. And of course, it involves thinking about investing money and resources into something that may never grow. Still, it’s important to learn the best way to grow your own garden. That’s what the tips below are for.

For planting spring bulbs in the winter, decide where you want them to go and dig individual planting holes at the correct spacing. Place some small four inch plastic pots inside the holes with the rims slightly exposed and fill with soil. When spring comes, planting the bulbs is a breeze. Just remove the pots and place the bulbs in the empty hole. Fill the hole with the soil that was in the pot.

Run your fingernails across a bar of soap before you go out to weed or plant in your garden. The soap that collected under your nails will prevent the collection of dirt while you work. Afterward, a simple scrub with a nail brush will remove the soap and leave your hands clean, with much less effort.

Plants need room to grow. Packing too many plants in proximity to one another will make them compete for resources and you’ll subsequently either have one plant die, or have both plants grow in much worse conditions. It’s advisable to research the full size of a plant and look at how deep and how far apart the plants should be grown.

Be sure to water your garden daily. Without daily water, your garden may quickly turn sour. If the idea of pulling out a hose daily is too much for you to stomach, consider installing some sort of sprinkler system. There is a cost, but it can save a lot of headaches and actually pay for itself via a healthy crop!

All plants need an adequate supply of carbon dioxide in order to thrive. The majority of plants grow much better when CO2 levels are at their highest. Getting a greenhouse is the best way to get a higher amount. Here the CO2 can be increased, as it cannot be outdoors, and can give your plants the best conditions for rapid growth.

To keep dirt from getting under your fingernails while gardening, reach for a bar of soap beforehand! As much as we all love gardening, none of us really enjoy all that soil that gets stuck under our nails that can be so challenging to remove. Simply claw a bar of soap before you begin working in your garden and when finished, run your hands under water and as the soap washes away, so does the dirt!

Use fertilizers that are free for the taking. Using chemical free grass clippings or human urine for a nutrient rich and free fertilizer. Twenty parts water with one part urine is an excellent fertilizer for seedlings, or steep the grass clippings in water to make a tea for watering and fertilizing the plants. So don’t spend a lot on the garden when the fertilizers can be had for free.

Taking the time to participate in gardening can be nerve wracking, but the results of your intense labor can ensure it was all worthwhile. Help yourself and your garden by following the tips that you have read.
