Why You Should Give Organic Gardening A Try

When it comes to organic gardening, take note that it requires a lot of patience, as well as a green thumb. When you enjoy this hobby, you often have a goal of growing healthier foods for your family to enjoy. However, organic gardening obviously isn’t as easy as it might sound. Read the tips below to see what you need to begin growing like a pro.

The ambient temperate of a room with live plants should be kept between sixty-five and seventy-five degrees throughout the day. This level of heat is required in order for plants to grow. If you aren’t wanting your house to be this warm in the winter, you can use a heat lamp on the plants.

It can be extremely fast and easy to plant perennials into your garden. Simply use a spade or small shovel to get under the grass or turf and flip it over. Then, using wood chips, cover the area to a depth of three or four inches. After a few weeks, you can then dig into the turf and plant the perennials of your choosing.

After seeds have sprouted, they require less warmth than they did prior to sprouting. As they begin growing you can move them farther away from heat sources. Also, remove plastic coverings from the tops of your growing containers to keep them from becoming too warm or humid. Keep an eye on your seeds so you will know when this should be done.

Flower Beds

The optimal amount of organic mulch to use in your flower beds is 2-3 inches. This will prevent weeds from growing, retain humidity, and feed your plants with the nutrients they need. Also, the flower beds will look beautifully maintained at all times.

Pine can be a wonderful mulch. There are some plants that thrive in acidic soil. If you have acid loving plants, use pine needles as a mulch. Using several inches of needles to cover your beds provides acid for the soil as they begin to decompose.

Do you want to get rid of weeds in a natural way? Take layers of newspapers and use them for weed control. It is a fact that weeds cannot thrive without light from the sun. If you place sheets of newspaper over the weeds, they will die due to a lack of sunlight. Newspapers break down over time, and they make a great addition to compost. Covering the newspaper with mulch will help your garden to be more pleasing to the eye.

The correct depth for planting seeds in containers is triple the seed’s size. However, some seeds do not need to be covered, they need the sunlight. This is true of popular flowers like petunias and zinnias. If you don’t know whether your seeds require sun exposure, check the seed package or search online for the information.

The hobby of organic gardening will take dedication, patience and a little bit of help from Mother Nature. It makes use of empty land to produce something tasty and healthy. If you want to make the most of your clean, green, organic garden, you should put your new skills to the test.
