If you want to embrace a healthier lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet, organic gardening is the way to go. You do have to put in some effort, though. Perhaps you are unsure of the benefits of organic gardening, or you are unsure how to get your garden started.
Sod should be laid correctly. Get your soil ready before you lay your sod. Remove the weeds, then break up the soil into fine tilth. Lightly, but firmly pack the soil down, and make sure that it is flat. Moisten the soil thoroughly. Staggered rows with offset joints is the best way for the sod to be laid out. Firm sod until there is an even, flat surface; fill in gaps with soil. After two weeks of daily watering, the sod should be rooted; at this time, it is now safe to walk on it.
Shoveling soil that is mostly clay can be difficult because of the hardness of the soil, and because it sticks to the shovel. To make working in clay easier, rub the shovel with floor or car wax and then buff it with a cloth. The shovel will glide through the clay and as a bonus, your shovel will be resistant to rust.
Keep the weeds out of your garden by removing them regularly. Weeds can turn a thriving garden into a total wasteland. You might want to think about using white vinegar to do this. White vinegar is a fantastic weed killer! So, if weed pulling is tiring you out, spray a white vinegar solution all over them.
If you have planted vegetables within your garden, make sure that they are getting at least six hours of sunlight each day. Most members of the vegetable family need this minimum of light for proper growth. Some flowers are especially sun-loving as well.
You could try to boil weeds if you are trying to remain organic. A pot of boiling hot water can be one of the most safe weed destroyers. Pour the boiling water directly onto the weeds, just make sure you do not damage the nearby plants. The extreme heat of the water will cause damage to the weeds’ roots, which will stop them from growing any more.
Irises should be divided. If you divide the overgrown clumps of flowers, you’ll find that your stock grows proportionally. Lift the dead bulbous irises. You will be able to split the bulb easily and replant it to get more flowers next year. Use a knife to carefully divide rhizomes. Cut new outside pieces and dispose of the center. Every piece needs to have a minimum of one good offshoot. Replant your pieces right away.
You should start pea seedlings indoors instead of planting them outside right at the start. By initially planting them indoors, the seeds tend to germinate better. The seedling may also be hardier, which means that they can better resist disease and attacks from pests. After the seedlings get mature enough, transplant them to your outdoor garden.
