How one takes care of their organic garden can say a lot about them as a person. That can sound intimidating to a new organic gardener, which is why they should read the list of tips below.

Do not improperly lay your new sod. Start by preparing your soil with care. Do some weeding if necessary, then break the soil until it is no longer packed. Compact the soil lightly and firmly, and be sure to create a flat surface. Water the soil until it is saturated. You want the sod laid down in staggered rows, and the joints to be offset from each other. After the sod has been flattened to an even surface, you can use soil to fill any remaining gaps. Water the sod every day for a couple of weeks. Then it should be rooted well and ready for foot traffic.

Clay soil makes working with a shovel difficult. The clay is hard and sticks to the shovel. Get better results in clay by rubbing car wax or floor wax onto the shovel, then buff off and dig. This will both make the clay fall off of the surface, and prevent the surface from rusting.

Find the crops that grow well in your local climate and the soil in your garden. If you try to force a plant that doesn’t like your weather, you’ll end up putting out a lot of work for very little result. What grows well one year will probably grow well next year too, so plant it again.

When planting a garden there should always be space reserved for essential kitchen herbs. These are available either fresh or dried in the grocery stores and are always expensive. Mint, parsley, basil, dill all can be grown in almost any climate. Also, these herbs are very easy to grow and can be used on a daily basis in the kitchen, and what is not used can be dried and stored for later use.

Stinkbugs can be a nuisance in the garden. These bugs are known to be proliferate in the cooler fall months. They love to inhabit peppers, beans, tomatoes and all kinds of fruit varieties. If left unattended, your garden could be ravaged by these bugs, so you need to proactively keep their population under control.

Slide your fingernails against a bar of soap to prevent dirt from getting under your nails. The dirt doesn’t necessarily hurt you, but you will save time and effort when cleaning your hands later. Instead of having to dig underneath your nails, you can just use a nailbrush to quickly remove the soap residue.
