Organic Gardening Tips And Tricks For Your Garden

Organic gardening can be a majorly relaxing hobby, or a major headache. The following article is designed to turn you into a successful and happy organic gardener.

Water infused with aspirin is great for combating plant disease. Your plants can benefit from a solution you can make by dissolving one and one-half aspirins into a couple of gallons of water. Spray this mixture onto your plants. Plants should be sprayed once every two to three weeks.

As your seeds sprout, they require less warmth than before. Move your plants further away from your heat source as they grow. Take off any plastic that is on the containers to keep away from warmth and moisture. To know when it is time for this, keep a careful eye on your seeds.

Pine can make a great mulch. Some plants are more acidic, and prefer soil that contains higher acidic levels. If you have some of these plants, then pine needles are an easy way to add acid to their bed. Cover the beds with a couple inches of needles and as they decompose, they will disperse acid to the soil.

Leave plenty of growing space when you plant your garden. You can underestimate how much space you need when they are growing. Proper spacing is important not just to accommodate the plants’ sizes but also for air circulation. Plan your garden carefully and leave enough space between the seeds.

Try to avoid letting your organic garden chores build up. Even if you can’t tend to your garden daily, you can do little things to help so that there is not a huge amount of work to be done when you are ready to get back to it. For instance, pluck weeds while you take your dog outside or before getting in your car.

A great tip when running your own organic garden, is to lightly ruffle your seedlings with your hand or cardboard, around once or twice per day. While it seems a little odd, it has been reported that this can encourage plant growth.

Creating a trap with beer can help reduce the number of slugs in your garden. Take a glass jar and bury it in your garden, making sure that the lip of the jar is even with the soil. Fill the jar with beer to an inch below the jar’s top. Slugs are attracted by the beer and won’t be able to exit the jar once they enter.

A diversity of materials can be used to construct raised beds. These include brick, stone, and wood. If you are to use wood, you should make sure that the wood is not treated and is also naturally rot resistant. Some good woods are locust, cedar and cypress. If you use your garden to grow vegetables, avoid using wood that has been treated with chemicals. These toxic chemicals may seep into the soil, damaging your crops. If you’re using treated lumber, line it with a barrier, or some plastic.
