There is a real joy in having our favourite plants grown in hanging baskets. I have two varieties, a tomato plant and a bean plant that grow happily in hanging baskets. They are available at my favourite gardening brands. I particularly like the 18 inch hanging baskets from Durood and Hydrosilk. The containers are ready to use, all you need to do is fill with water and moss, press the tabs on the container and it snaps into place to growing position.
If you have decided on a container garden, why not have a look at the Durood/Hydrosilk/DPN (Dupontory Nut) hanger. This dpny pack of 2 silver hangers have the initials DPN on one side and HPN on the other side. I find that this is an excellent selection for container gardening as it does not damage the plant when it gets wet. It can be tied on a stem with a string for easy holding, and the loops provide good support when the plant is pollinating. These hangers have the initials DPN on one side and HPN on the other side.
The other selection from my favourite gardening brands that I found to be suitable for hanging plants in hanging baskets are the dpny pack of 2 silver hangers. These are made by DuPont. The dpny pack of 2 silver hangers has the initials DPN on one side and HPN on the other side. I find that this is an excellent selection for container gardening as it does not damage the plant when it gets wet.
The basket does require some assembly but once you have completed this task, you will appreciate the fact that you can hang your basket in any location in your house. This makes them very convenient for use when watering plants close to the house. You can use a hose to water the basket, or even attach a hand held shower head to enjoy the spray of the water from the hose.
There is no requirement for hosing the hanger down while watering the plants in the basket. You can simply hang the basket on a flat surface and water the flowers from the bottom. The hanger can get quite hot while watering, so be sure that the person watering the flowers is within range of the basket. If you are away from the basket, the hose on the hanger can be attached to the water supply of the house.
I would not purchase these hanging baskets if they did not have some type of handles on them. This allows you to lift the hanger and transfer it to another location without taking it off the stand. Some brands offer recessed mounting systems for ease of changing the hanging basket’s position.
One other thing that I love about these hanging baskets is their diversity. I have one that attaches to my wall, one that is on a stand and one that attach to a door. The only thing that limits my choice is my imagination. As long as one of these hangers catches the eye of the person passing by, it becomes an attractive focal point in my gardening space.
So, when choosing 18 inch hanging baskets for your home garden, keep the above suggestions in mind. Your selection will dramatically affect the way you view your existing garden. And no matter what kind you choose, you can be sure that they will get more use than you ever thought possible. And, when you make use of a quality product, you won’t have to worry about them breaking.
