To keep your houseplants happy during the day, your thermostat should be set anywhere between 65 and 75 degrees. The temperature needs to remain warm so they may grow. If you are not willing to keep your house that warm during winter, you could always get the organic plants a heat lamp.
Before planting any perennials, you have to make the ground ready. Only a garden spade and woods chips are necessary. To prepare the garden, slice out sheets of turf using the spade, and flip the turf upside down. Then, cover the newly turned soil with wood chips, approximately three inches deep. After a few weeks, dig, then plant your perennials.
As the seeds sprout, they’ll need less warmth. Move your plants away from the heat as they grow. Take any plastic film off of your containers because they hold in heat and humidity. Watch the seeds so you can know when you do this.
Coffee grounds are good for your soil. They contain nitrogenous nutrients which are essential to plant growth. A strong nitrogen source in your garden area is a wonderful way to have healthy and strong plants.
When it’s harvest time, you should utilize a basket that you put laundry in to carry your veggies. Laundry baskets which have holes in them act as giant strainers for your home grown produce. If you hose off your produce in the laundry basket, the water will leave the basket through the holes in the sides.
Dried Plant Material
Use equal parts of green and dried plant material in your compost pile. When you pull weeds from your garden, throw them in the compost. The same goes for vegetable trimmings and grass clippings. These are considered green materials. Examples of dried plant material are sawdust, shredded paper, straw, cut-up woody material, and cardboard. Don’t throw charcoal, meat or manure into your compost.
If you are starting your seedlings out in small containers, you should use a layer of potting soil that is three times as deep as the size of a single seed. Some seeds need to be in direct sunlight, though, so you need to know information about each type of seed. Some examples are petunias and ageratum. If you are unsure if your seeds should be covered, refer to the seed packet, or if that is not available, look for information online.
