There are many people who’d like to have their own organic garden, but not many take the time to actually create one. Many people feel intimidated by gardening because it is so unfamiliar to them. This article has some good ideas to help you reach your goal of creating a garden for your enjoyment, and without incurring too much difficulty.
Involve your children in gardening. Gardens are terrific teaching tools for kids, and provide great opportunities for interaction, growth, and instruction on healthy living.
If you are a fan of organic, sustainable gardening methods, consider leaving part of your backyard untouched so that natural plants and wildlife can flourish in the area. This will also benefit your cultivated gardens as it will attract more bugs and birds to pollinate your other plants.
Organic indoor plants may need additional light sources to make up for the light they miss out on by being indoors. This needs to be considered. If you are living in a place that does not have a lot of natural sunlight, think about cultivating plants that do well in lower lighting situations. If you simply must have a plant that has higher requirements for sunlight, you can use indoor UV lamps.
Keep your tools handy to work more efficiently. Put them into a basket you carry with you, or use an apron with many pockets and hanging loops. Keep your gloves, a trowel, small pruning shears and other tools handy and make quick work of your garden maintenance.
After sprouting occurs, you will not need to keep seeds as warm. Take your plants out of the heat once they start to grow. If you used plastic wrap to insulate your seedlings, you should now remove it. You need to read the seeds to know the best time to do this.
You should add a two to three inch layer of organic mulch to your flower bed. This is a simple method of discouraging weeds, retaining moisture, and adding excellent nutrients into the garden. Mulch also completes your garden, giving it a finished appearance.
Do not overlook the benefits of pine mulch for your garden. Some garden plants have a high acidity, and prefer acidic soil. There is no better, or easier, way to make your acid-loving plants happy then to use pine needles you already have on your beds. Cover your beds with the needles, as they will decompose and disperse their acid throughout the soil.
You need to avoid chores in your organic garden stacking up. Sometimes it might prove difficult to get in a little gardening time every day. However, you shouldn’t fret, as there are a few things you can do that can minimize the time you spend gardening when you do manage to get to it. For example, pull a few weeds if you’re outside and waiting for your dog to finish his business.
If you keep these various tips in mind, gardening should not be so daunting. Use any combination of the above tips to improve your organic gardening efforts and have a table laden with scrumptious, wholesome produce you harvested from your garden.
