What You Have Always Wondered About Gardening

An organic garden requires your most astute and attentive care to thrive. With knowledge, your gardening skill will improve dramatically. The tastiest and healthiest of produce can be produced from your own organic garden. Follow the tips provided for a successful organic garden.

The handles on your gardening tools can be used as a convenient measuring instrument. Large handled tools such as shovels, rakes, and hoes can be used as measuring sticks. Place the handles on the ground and measure them. Label the distances onto them using a permanent marker pen. The next time you find yourself in your garden, you will have one large ruler right at your fingertips.

If you want your garden full of flowers spring through summer, plant bulbs. Typically, bulbs are simple to grow, and they’ll grow every single year. Different types of bulbs bloom at different times, so if you choose appropriately, you can have blooms from early spring to late summer.

When fall has arrived, it is time to plant the edibles for the autumn. This year, instead of using your regular clay pots to plant your kale and lettuce, use a pumpkin as the container instead! Cut an opening in the pumpkin and scoop the insides out. Then spray the edges and empty inside of the pumpkin with Wilt-Pruf so the pumpkin doesn’t rot. Now you can use the pumpkin as a planter.

Soak seeds overnight, preferably in a cool, dark place. Place some seeds into a small container, then fill it with water until it is almost to the top. The idea here is for your seeds to become fully hydrated by the time they hit the dirt. This way, the seeds you have planted will have some chance of growing.

Tempt your cat away from the plants he has been bothering by planting catnip or wheat grass near them. You can also try to offend the cats sense of smell with orange rinds or mothballs.

Make sure that your deciduous shrubs are protected. Tender, potted shrubs must be protected when the weather is cold. Tie these canes at the top, and place a blanket over it. Using fabric, rather than plastic, allows air circulation and prevents rotting from moisture build up.

Keep your pet out of the garden with old perfume or aftershave in the grass. This will mask the garden smell that is attracting your dog, and it will make it a less appealing place for your dog to visit.

As you can see from the previous list of tips, organic gardening can really make a difference in the freshness and nutrients of your produce. An organic garden is a ton of work to make successful but well worth the effort.
